8 tips not to feel lost during tradeshows

Gregoire Chauvin

Tradeshows are where products are examined, and where relationships are formed. If you attend a fashion trade show as a retailer, you may leave with a lifelong supplier or customers. However, although these trade shows may be useful, they can also be overwhelming. It can be easy to feel lost during one, so we will be going over some tips to help you feel more prepared.

Don’t blend in with the crowd

It might be tempting for you to just hide in a corner of your booth, but you should not do this! It can be simple and easy to stand out a bit. All you have to do is wear a unique outfit, or create a memorable catchphrase. Do not be predictable, because that will not get you noticed in the fashion industry.

Try to set up in a good location

Where you set up your booth can make a big difference. You might want to come in before the trade show and scout out good spots. Paying a bit extra for a spot will be a pain, but it will be well worth it!

Prepare beforehand

It is likely that there will be a few suppliers who you will want to see at the trade show. Gather all their information together before you leave. This is your big chance to meet and impress them, so make sure that you are ready for it.

Ask for samples

If you see something that catches your eye, don’t be afraid to say so! The people running the booths are likely friendly and accommodating, just like you. You might be given the sample on the spot, or it could be shipped to you later.

If this is your first show, be as cheap as possible

So you are brand new to trade shows, that’s okay. Everybody has to start somewhere, and it is good that you are getting experience. However, you are unlikely to sell much at your very first show. Save the money, and go cheap for your very first show.

Dress comfortably

You can expect to be on your feet most of the day at a trade show. You will be doing a lot of standing at your booth, speaking with others, and walking around. This means that you have to be dressed in a comfortable way, which will also help ease your nervousness.

Give away freebies

When you offer something to customers and suppliers, it is giving them a chance to recognize your potential. They will come into your booth and look around, and then they will remember you afterward.

Be approachable at all times

You’ve got to have your game face on at a trade show. Be friendly and speak with as many people as possible. This will let them know that you are happy to be doing business with them It also allows you the opportunity to make some new connections, and realize that there is no need to be nervous.
